1 Death in the floods in Oklahoma while the showers hit the region


A man from Oklahoma died after being swept away by floods on Wednesday while heavy rains hit this state and Texas, which had around 16 million people under high -water alerts, officials said.

The man in the county of Pottawatomy died after his vehicle was swept on a roadway around 12:30 p.m., and after an assistant to a sheriff who tried to save him was also trapped in the water, said the sheriff’s office. The deputy was rescued by firefighters.

The heaviest rain had moved the south-east of Oklahoma by the end of Wednesday afternoon, the weather service told Norman, but Rivers was to continue to flood until Thursday.
