Rio de Janeiro – A hot air tank caught fire and plummeted the sky on Saturday Brazil The state of southern Santa Catarina, killing eight people, said firefighters.
Images shared by the Local G1 media have shown that smoke bolts from the ball in flames have rushed to the ground in the municipality of Praia Grande.
Thirteen people survived and were taken to hospitals, said military firefighters from Santa Catarina, adding that 21 people were on board, including the pilot.
“We are in mourning. A tragedy has happened. We will see how it happens, what happened, why it happened. But the important thing now is that the structure of the State does what it can,” said Governor Jorginho Mello in a video on X.
Mello said he had asked the authorities to go to the municipality “to do as much as possible to rescue, help, go to hospital, comfort families”.
Praia Grande is a common destination for the hot air balloon, a popular activity in certain parts of southern Brazil during the June festivities which celebrate Catholic saints like Saint-Jean.
Last Sunday, a ball went down in the state of Sao Paulo, killing a 27 -year -old woman and injuring 11 other people, G1 reported.
