Neil Callan receives a suspended ban of eight months for social media violations | Racing news

Neil Callan has received an eight -month ban following remarks made on social networks, but will be able to continue rolling because this sentence is suspended for two years.

Callan was charged with three offenses and violations of racing rules.

The first under rule J19A being that on December 15, 2023, he sent an article on X, formerly known as Twitter, in relation to the steward Bha Anthony McGlone which was abusive, insulting and did not deal with respect.

The second accusation occurred following a conduct on December 9, 2023 when Callan posted compared to the BHA which was not responsible use of social media and did not show adequate respect for civil servants.

The third allegation was in violation of rule J19 and linked to conduct between August 16, 2023 and January 14, 2024 when he published, republished and commented on social media in an offensive, abusive and inappropriate way, so that it was prejudicial to good conduct and the good reputation of horse races in Great Britain.

Following a closed advocacy agreement, the president of the independent judicial committee, Tim Gray, said: “The agreement which was concluded was that the sanction which will be imposed on Mr. Callan for violations will be the sanction of an eight-month suspension of Mr. Callan’s license and that the suspension itself will be suspended for a period of 24 months, by opponent of each of these leaders.

“In addition, there will be a financial penalty which will be immediately payable in the sum of £ 1,500. The suspension will have the effect of acting as a deterrent.

“It is also fair to say that if Mr. Callan was to commit new violations of the racing rules, for an autonomous conduct and offenses linked to the horse riding processed by the commissioners of the raceday or the whip examination committee, or a judicial panel hearing on the whip, the race or the driving or the offenses related to the interference in relation, in the next two years, it would then be open to any future judicial panel suspension of the suspension.
