The British government provides major defense reforms at the cost of social protection programs, by drawing public anger.
Under the slogan “Welfare Not Warfare”, the demonstrators left in force in London, opposing the British government’s plans to increase military spending while reducing social support.
Like its European NATO allies, the United Kingdom is under pressure from the United States to assume its own safety in the light of Ukraine’s invasion by Russia.
But the European public – most of which are faced with a cost of living crisis – could well oppose as much as the British.
Can NATO allies therefore build a defense force strong enough to counter the threats of Russia without American support?
And how will European leaders attack a possible public dissatisfaction?
