The former referee of the Premier League Uriah Rennie died at the age of 65.

Rennie was the first black referee of the Premier League and was described as “pioneer” by the Sheffield Football Association (FA).

Sunday evening, a declaration by Sheffield Fa read: “We are deeply saddened to learn the death of our former chair and pioneer referee, Uriah Rennie.

“Uriah has entered history as the first black referee of the Premier League, offering more than 300 high -flying games between 1997 and 2008.

“He broke the barriers, shaped our football community and inspired the generations to come. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Uriah during this difficult period.”
