Miami – Hurricane surveillance was in effect on Tuesday for southern Mexico while tropical depression in the east of the Pacific has gained force.
Depression was to become a tropical storm later Tuesday and a hurricane on Wednesday, said the National Center for American Hurricane in Miami.
He had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and moved to the west-northwest to 12 mph, the forecasters said. Depression would be named Erick when his winds reach the tropical strength of the 39 MPH storm.
It was centered around 495 miles southeast of Punta Maldonado in the state of Guerrero in Mexico and was to approach the coast by the end of Wednesday.
A hurricane watch was published for a section of the Pacific coast of Bahia de Huatulco, which is in the state of Oaxaca, in Punta Maldonado. Surveillance of hurricanes means hurricane conditions, with winds exceeding 74 MPH, are possible in the area within two days.
Surveillance of the tropical storm was in effect further south of Salina Cruz in Bahia de Huatulco.
Strong precipitation has been planned for parts of Oaxaca and Guerrero with lighter quantities in the Chiapas, Tabasco and Veracruz states as well as parts of Salvador and Guatemala.
