Waves of Russian missiles and drone strikes killed at least 15 people and injured 116 others, most of the victims In Kyiv, Ukrainian officials reported.
Massive air attack during the night after Tuesday hit 27 locations in the Ukrainian capital, damaging residential buildings and critical infrastructure, according to the Minister of the Interior, Ihor Klymenko.
Ukrainian officials were quick to draw international attention to attacks while kyiv pushes diplomatic efforts to put pressure on Moscow to agree on a ceasefire.
“Today, the enemy has spared no drones or missiles,” said Klymenko, describing the attack as one of the most important against kyiv since Russia launched its large -scale invasion of the country in February 2022.
Thirty apartments were destroyed in a single residential block and the emergency services sought the rubble for possible survivors, added Klymenko.
People were injured in the districts of Sviatoshynskyi and Solomianskyi of kyiv, and the fires broke out in two other parts of the city, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
Klitschko also noted that an American citizen died of injuries with bursts of bus.
The Russian strikes, which lasted throughout the night, came when the world leaders met in Canada for the Group of Seven (G7) summit.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to attend talks on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, suggested that the “massive and brutal strike” against kyiv was deliberately timed, in particular painting her as an insult to the American president Donald Trump.
“Putin does it on purpose, just during the G7 summit. He sends a signal for total lack of respect to the United States and other partners who called at the end of the murder,” he wrote on social networks.
Zelenskyy is trying to persuade Trump to support Ukraine and do additional pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree on a ceasefire.
Sybiha suggested that the Russian president wanted to make G7 leaders “appear weak”.
“Only the solid steps and the actual pressure on Moscow can prove him the opposite,” added the diplomat.
Zelenskyy called the strikes overnight “one of the most horrible attacks” led by Moscow and said Putin “the fact only because he can allow himself to continue the war”.
Pressed by Trump, Russia and Ukraine have held two series of direct discussions on a truce but have made little progress except for acceptance prisoners’ exchanges and the return of the bodies.
In the meantime, Russia has increased its bombing from a daring Through Ukraine deep in Russia on June 1, destroyed a large part of the heavy fleet of Moscow bombers.
During its latest attacks, Russia used 175 drones and more than 14 cruise missiles, kyiv’s authorities said on Telegram.
Odesa officials said 13 people were injured in new attacks on the Port City of the Black Sea.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday that its air defense units had intercepted and destroyed 147 Ukrainian drones on Russian territory.
While Ukraine puts pressure on the support of the West to help him maintain his air defenses, Russia is suspected of obtaining arms in arms in China, Iran and North Korea.
Reflecting Moscow’s growing links with Pyongyang, Putin’s best security advisor, Sergei Shoigu, was reported on Tuesday by the Russian state media in the North Korean capital for interviews with leader Kim Jong Un.
North Korea is suspected of having provided Russia with ballistic missiles, anti-banque rockets and millions of cycles of ammunition while thousands of its soldiers would have died during operations to occupy Ukrainian troops of Kursk Russia Border region.
This is the second time that Shoigu has visited North Korea in less than two weeks, and it is considered a sign that Moscow and Pyongyang continue to deepen their alliance. Kim and Putin signed a strategic partnership treaty last year, including a mutual defense pact.
