The United Kingdom votes to decriminalize abortion after the prosecution of certain women | Women’s rights news

The amendment comes after the police investigated more than 100 women, some of whom have made natural strata.

British parliamentarians voted to decriminalize abortion in England and Wales after concerns aroused by the pursuit of women who end a pregnancy.

On Tuesday, the House of Commons approved an amendment to a broader bill which would prevent women from being crunized under an archaic law.

Currently, a woman can face criminal accusations for having chosen to end a pregnancy after 24 weeks or without the approval of two doctors, under the laws which carry on the technical level of a perpetuity imprisonment.

The amendment adopted 379-137. The House of Commons will now have to adopt the Crime Bill, which is planned, before it goes to the Chamber of Lords, where it can be delayed but not blocked.

Labor deputy Tonia Antoniazzi, the deputy of Parliament who introduced one of the amendments, said that the change was necessary because the police had investigated more than 100 women for alleged abortions in the past five years, some of which have undergone false natural layers and morvilations.

“This legislation will only get women out of the criminal justice system because they are vulnerable and they need our aid,” she said. “What public interest does it serve? It is not justice, it is cruelty and it must end.”

The changes in the law implemented during the COVVI-19 pandemic allow women to receive abortion pills by mail and to terminate their own home pregnancies during the first 10 weeks.

This led to a handful of largely publicized cases in which the women were continued for illegally obtaining abortion pills and using them to end their own pregnancies after 24 weeks.

In May, Nicola Packer was acquitted after taking abortion medication when she was 26 weeks pregnant, beyond the legal limit of 10 weeks for having taken these drugs at home.

The 45 -year -old man told the jurors during his trial, who came after a four -year -old police investigation, that she did not know that she had been pregnant for so long.

Carla Foster was imprisoned in 2023 for illegally obtaining abortion tablets to end her pregnancy when she was between 32 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. The court of appeal finally suspended his sentence.
