Seven California men responsible for greatest jewelry in American history, prosecutors say

Seven men in southern California were charged in the context of what federal prosecutors described Tuesday as the largest jewelry in American history.

The accused, all of the Los Angeles region, stole approximately $ 100 million in gold, diamonds, rubies, emeralds and luxury watches of an armored car in July 2022, according to the American prosecutor’s office for the California central district.

They were charged on June 11 for two conspiracy chiefs to commit a flight from the interstate and foreign expedition and theft of the interstate and foreign expedition, the prosecutor’s office said in a press release.

The defendants were identified as:

  • Carlos Victor Mestanza Cercado, 31
  • Jazael Padilla Rest, 36
  • Pablo Raul Lugo Larroin, 41
  • Victor Hugo Valencia Solorzano, 60
  • Jorge Enrique Alban, 33,
  • Jeson Nelon Flores Flores, 42
  • Eduardo Macias Ibarra, 36

Five of the men were also charged with two conspiracy chiefs to interfere with trade by skilled flight and interference with trade by theft, said the prosecutor’s office.

Two of the men were to appear in Federal Court on Tuesday. Padilla is incarcerated in Arizona, where the prosecutor’s office said he was in prison for burglary.

It is not clear if they have lawyers to speak on their behalf.

A copy of the indictment shows that Padilla would have spotted an international jewelry show in San Mateo, just south of San Francisco, on July 8, 2022. Two days later, Padilla and several others would have followed a semi-camon from Brinks with 73 bags containing millions of dollars in the Bijou.

On July 11, the seven men stole two dozen bags on the truck showed the indictment.

The indictment does not say how they had access to the truck. Brinks did not immediately respond to a request for comments, nor a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office.

After the alleged flight, the group went to East Hollywood with stolen products. Most accused disabled the phones they had used to communicate on the robbery in the days that followed, according to the indictment.

The accusation act indicates that the victims have reduced the value of the goods stolen to $ 100 million. The press release indicates that some of these jewelry was recovered when the authorities executed mandates for searization on Monday, but the value of these articles is not clear. Nor is it clear what happened to the rest of the jewelry.

Several of the accused have also been accused of having stolen hundreds of thousands of Samsung electronics in interstate freight shipments and nearly $ 60,000 in apples. These alleged flights took place in 2022, before the robbery of jewelry, according to the prosecutor’s office.
