Feast and famine approach to dieting effective for weight loss – study

Fasting on alternative days can help shave books better than other intermittent fasting and calorie restrictions, according to a new study.

While scientists have called for more work to confirm the results, a news reviewed suggests that the so -called party and famine approach to diets can have greater weight loss advantages.

The fasting of alternative days involves a 24 -hour fast every second day and has become more popular in recent years.

Other intermittent approaches on an empty stomach in diets have also gained popularity, including a restricted diet in time, where people only eat for a certain number of hours in the day, such as diet 16: 8 involving a 16 -hour fasting period followed by eight -hour diet; And the fast of the whole day, which includes the 5: 2 diet involving five days to eat and two days of fasting.

Researchers from ScotlandThe United States, Canada And Germany I wanted to compare fasting methods with continuous energy restriction diets by examining all available evidence.

They examined data from 99 studies involving more than 6,500 people.

People Involved in the studies had an average body mass (BMI) index of 31 and almost nine in 10 (89%) had pre -existing health problems.

The research team found that intermittent emptythrough diets and limited regimes caused weight loss.

But compared to the continuous energy restriction, the fast of alternative days was the only strategy to show advantages in the reduction of body weight, the people of this diet losing 1.29 kg more, according to the study, which was published in the BMJ.

The authors said that the fasting of alternative days showed a “trivial” reduction in body weight compared to both a restricted food and the whole day

“Minor differences have been noted between certain intermittent on an empty stomach regimes and a continuous energy restriction, with a certain advantage for an alternative days fasting strategy with weight loss in short -term tests,” wrote the authors.

“All intermittent fasting strategies and continuous energy restriction diets have shown a reduction in body weight compared to an ad-loitum diet

“Among three intermittent stinging regimes (that is, the fasting of alternate days, the restricted diet in time and the fast of the whole day), the fasting of alternative days showed a benefit of the reduction in body weight compared to the continuous energy restriction.”
