A new study showed how a simple exercise could predict the natural and cardiovascular causes of death.
The researchers wanted to see if the non -aerobic physical form, evaluated by a seated relief test, could predict premature deaths in people of middle and older age, and Wednesday, their results were published in the European Preventive Cardiology Journal.
They tested theory on 4,282 adults aged 46 to 75 from 1998 to 2023. Most of the participants, 68%, were men. “None of them presented physical or clinical limitations relevant to fitness tests,” said the researchers.
All the participants carried out an assembled test to assess the main components of the non -aerobic physical form, which are muscle strength / power, flexibility, balance and body composition.
The test was simple, but not necessarily easy. The participants had to sit and get up from the ground without other parts of the body such as the hands, elbows or knees touching the ground.
Their instructions were as follows: “Without worrying about the speed of movement, try to sit down and then get up from the ground, using the minimum support which, in your opinion, is necessary,” wrote the authors of the study.
If the participants used ends for support, they would lose points. They also needed to stabilize because a partial loss of perceived balance would eliminate their score.
The researchers found that the non -aerobic physical form “was a significant predictor” of natural and cardiovascular mortality in participants.
After following with patients about 12 years later, the researchers discovered that there were 665 deaths due to natural causes.
Those who scored 10 perfect points on the place up of the place had mortality rates of 3.7%. Mortality rates tripled to 11.1% for people with a score of 8 points and “considerably increased” by 42.1% for those with a score of 0 to 4 points, according to the researchers.
The study was carried out in a private clinic in Rio de Janeiro, BrazilAnd most of the participants “belonged to the higher socioeconomic and educational strata of the country”.
Researchers were also able to control past or current levels of physical activity and exercise.
