A man found with a taser, a rope and an adhesive tape that was seen in the neighborhood was accused of tracking down and having tried to remove the mayor of Memphis, Tennessee.
Trenton Régston, 25, is detained in Shelby County prison without surety or deposit listed and an appearance in court on Friday, according to prison files.
Recumen was charged with attempted kidnapping, harassment and aggravated criminal intrusion, Memphis police said in a statement. Police said they thought he was targeting mayor Paul Young.
“At the time of his arrest, the police recovered a taser, gloves, a rope and an adhesive tape from his vehicle,” said the police service.
It was not clear if removal had a lawyer. The Public Defender Office for the Region did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
Police initially believed that the suspect was driving in a subdivision that includes Young’s home in East Memphis on Sunday evening.
The police and Young said that the security video shows a person who has evolved a wall at the subdivision, then heading directly to the house of Young.
“We now know that he walked directly from us, hitting the door with gloves, a complete pocket and nervous behavior,” Young said in a statement.
A large part of the incident was on the video of the security camera, officials said, although the police did not detail what happened after the intruder came to the door.
The police service has tried to reassure residents this week that he is aware of high -level political violence in the country and is ready to fight it.
“We understand the concerns raised by this incident and want to reassure the public that the Memphis police service remains fully attached to the security of all residents, including the elected officials of our city,” he said on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week, Vance Boelter, 57, was accused of murder in a mortal Under the elected officials who started in the Minnesota twin cities region.
The authorities accused him of making the identity of the application of laws and fatally derive a representative of the democratic state and her husband and to injure another legislator of the State and his wife.
Young said in his declaration that it was time to redouble the efforts to keep the political discussion.
“In the climate of today, especially after the tragic events of Minnesota and the threats that my wife and I often receive online, none of us can be too cautious,” he said.
“Let’s rename our speech, reduce hatred and we protect-no matter our beliefs,” he said. “Let us claim our strength as a community. Let’s choose love.”
