The hopes of Crystal Palace to play in Europe next season seem to have been stimulated after the shareholder John Textor sold his participation in the club in the owner of New York Jets, Woody Johnson.
Textor’s actions in Palace threatened to be an obstacle to their participation in the Europa League next season because the American is a French Lyon shareholder, who should participate in the same competition.
By virtue of UEFA multi-club property rules, it seemed to be missing.
However, the participation of 43% of Textor in the London Club was now sold in Johnson in an agreement worth more than 190 million pounds Sterling and Values Palace to more than 400 million pounds Sterling.
A press release Crystal Palace said: “Crystal Palace Football Club can confirm that Robert Wood Johnson,” Woody “, an American businessman and co -owner of New York Jets, signed a legally binding contract to buy Eagle Football in the club.
“Although the completion is awaiting approval of the Premier League and the female Super League, we do not envisage any problem and we welcome Woody as a partner and director of the club.
“We would like to be recorded to thank John Textor for his contribution in the past four years and wish him any success for the future.”
The sale is subject to the Premier League and the approval of the WSL, but can now release the palace to play in the Europa League.
The Eagles qualified for the competition thanks to their final victory for the FA Cup against Manchester City.
A decision is scheduled in the days when Palace will take its place in the Europa League for the first time in its history with the draw in August.
Textor, who, through his group Eagle Football Holdings, also has an important participation in Botafogo, which are the current Brazilian and South American champions, initially invested in the palace in 2021.
Johnson has been in talks with the textor and president of the palace, Steve Parish for several weeks.
He is the billionaire from New York Jets and former American ambassador to the United Kingdom and has already tried to buy a Premier League club, with interest in West Ham and Chelsea.
Textor and Eagle Football, which also owns RWD Molenbeek in Belgium, will now try to buy another English club.
Since next season, the coverage of the Premier League in Sky Sports will have 128 games at least 215 live games exclusively.
And 80% of all the Premier League television matches next season are on Sky Sports.
