Emma Raducanu congratulated Wimbledon for doing “incredible work” after it was revealed that a man who tracked her was forbidden to buy tickets for this year championships.
The man, who had followed Raducanu at several events, received a police ban prescription in Dubai after his The presence at the Dubai tennis championships has dropped it into tears on the ground.
Wimbledon said his security system had made the man’s attempt to buy tickets for the All England Club and that his request had been rejected.
Raducanu said BBC Sport: “Wimbledon did an incredible job. I received a notification and the police contacted me and assured me that everything was fine.
“I feel good, I feel comfortable and safe. I had great protection whenever I went to these events recently. I feel a difference and it makes me more comfortable.”
Raducanu spoke before its appearance at the Eastbourne Open and also paid tribute to compatriot Katie Boulter, who revealed this week the extent of online abuses that she receives regularly.
“I’m glad Katie talked about this and I’m glad she took a stand, because it is something that we all face – some at different levels, but all are quite extreme,” added Raducanu.
Boulter spoke of the level of abuse intended for certain tennis players and revealed that she and her family had received death threats.
The British No. 2 thinks that a large part of the mistreatment comes from players who have lost money and even if she has learned to manage it better over the years, incidents can raise real concerns for its safety.
“I think it just shows how vulnerable we are. You really don’t know if that person is there. You really don’t know if they are nearby or if they know where you live or something like that,” she added.
“At the very beginning of my career, this is probably something that I took very personally (…) get comments on appearance. It becomes more apparent every time you go on your phone.”
