Diddy’s lawyers do not call witnesses after continuing the case

Today, federal prosecutors have traveled the jurors through another batch of text messages and other files in order to illustrate Diddy’s relentless request for the “freak offs” fueled by drugs – and the measures he would have taken to orchestrate them. The accusation team should rest their case tomorrow.

The defense team, for its part, does not intend to call any witness to the stand, according to the main lawyer of Diddy, Marc Agnifilo. However, Diddy’s lawyers plan to present evidence. NBC News Legal Analyst Danny Cevalos more on this decision below.

But first, here is what you need to know about day 28 of the trial:

  • Joseph CeccieloA special agent with internal security surveys, said that Diddy seems to have paid a sex worker named Cabral To stay at the Trump International Hotel & Tower in New York in September 2023 and take a flight from Atlanta-to Newark. The testimony potentially underlines one of the charges of the American government against Diddy: transport to engage in prostitution.
  • The prosecution team showed text messages from September 2023 in which the ex-girlfriend of Diddy “Jeanne“Tlery up against him, saying that she refused to meet him in New York. It is” clear that you just want me to go for a hotel frenzy, “wrote Jane in part.” I don’t want to be used and locked in a room to make your fantasies, “she added.
  • In a separate text exchange at the time Cassie Ventura Submitted her trial in November 2023 against Diddy, Jane told the hip-hop magnate that she no longer wanted to have sex with foreigners on her command. She told him that she was “not a porn star”, according to text messages that entered into evidence. She added that she was “mentally and physically drained” by the marathon sexual meetings.

This morning, the jurors put helmets to watch what seemed to be explicit videos of “Freak OFS” with Jane. Diddy, wearing a white sweater and glasses, looked around the courtroom while the videos played, apparently avoiding looking at the graphic recordings on the monitor in front of him. Diddy’s mother, Janice bandsseemed to focus his gaze on the jury box.

👨‍⚖️ Analysis: why the defense jumps from witnesses

By Danny Cevallos

It is not surprising for me that the Diddy’s team does not call witnesses. Even if the defense had indicated that she could Call witnesses, such as employees or their own experts, it was always more likely that the defense does not call anyone at all.

This does not mean that the defense has embarked on a deception. No way. On the contrary, the government has the burden of proving its case, and the defense has no burden. For this reason, the defense generally awaits until it sees how the case of the accusation takes place before making a final decision on which – if someone – he will call. And because the government has the burden, it is safer for the defense to call witnesses than if it must absolutely obtain something from this witness.

But there is another strategic advantage. If the defense does not undertake to find out who he will call, it means that the government must prepare a counter-examination for all members of the witnesses.

But there is a witness that the government knew that the defense was never going to call: Diddy himself. Of course, he had a constitutional right to testify, but he was never going to do it. There are simply no good answers for things like the video of him Ventura. He is a better witness while remaining silent.

🗓 What is the next step

US assistant lawyer Maurene Comey The court said that Cerciello will continue to testify on Tuesday. If this plan is held, the government will not rest before noon tomorrow. We could get fence arguments on Thursday.
