The HDMI 2.2 specification supports 16K Video at 60 Hz

After The announcement first at these 2025The HDMI Forum finally publishes the New HDMI 2.2 specification to manufacturers today. Although there is no definitive calendar for the duration of equipment manufacturers to adopt new specifications, the first HDMI Ultra96 HDMI cables, with increased bandwidth capacities up to 96 Gbit / s, could be available later this year.

HDMI 2.1 and current HDMI HDMI cables current have a maximum bandwidth of 48 GB HDMI 2.2 and the new ultra96 cables will allow even higher resolutions and cooling rates, including 4K at 480 Hz, 8K at 240 Hz, 10K at 120 Hz and even 16K at 60 Hz. 10 bits and 12 bits at 8k at 60 Hz and 4K at 240 Hz.

Given how difficult it is to find 8K native content, do not expect the cable suppliers or console manufacturers to offer 16K of any time. HDMI 2.1 has existed since 2017 and equipment manufacturers still do not fully benefit from specifications, so the increase in bandwidth and 2.2 resolutions should help HDMI specifications for years to come.

The HDMI forum also hopes that the new specification will allow consumers to know more easily which cable they should use. HDMI cables are currently differentiated with names, especially standard, high speed, high speed and high -speed ultra, which does not provide any specification on their capacities. With HDMI 2.2, the ultra96 name will clearly indicate that a cable supports the new specifications and the bandwidth up to 96 goals.

HDMI 2.2 will also include the new latency indication protocol (LIP), which was also announced last January. The functionality is designed to rely on improvements in audio and video synchronization introduced with HDMI 2.1, in particular for configurations where signals bounce on a sound bar or AV receiver before reaching a TV or projector.
