The biggest British outsider in Wimbledon this year will surely be n ° 719 Oliver Tarvet.
Tarvet, who is currently studying at the University of San Diego, sealed a place in Wimbledon’s main draw after being qualified.
But having to maintain its amateur status as an university art means that Tarvet, in addition to expenses, can only claim $ 10,000 (approximately £ 7,300) of £ 66,000 guaranteed just for reaching Wimbledon.
Tarvet said: “There have been complaints about it, but I don’t want to talk about it too much, I don’t want to exceed anything.
“In my opinion, I worked hard to get this money and I don’t really have the impression that it is not deserved, the money I have. So I think it would be good to see a change in the rules.”
Tarvet is the first Male British qualifier for Wimbledon since Alexander Ward in 2017. He followed his victory over the 14th Terence Atmane seeded in the first round with a 6-3 6-2 victory against Alexis Galarneau in Canada before defeating the 29th head of Alexander Blockx from Belgium 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-1 to progress to the main draw.
“I have not really been exposed to this level before or to these players before,” said the 21 -year -old Sky Sports News.
“I did a good job to simply focus on what is important and what makes me success. In qualification, I was just able to maintain a very high level throughout the three games and I found myself where I am today. So I couldn’t be happier.
“It’s really special,” he added. “There are a lot of emotions that have occurred in the past four days, but all have been really positive. Being here on the site, it is finally starting to hit me and just seems to be quite surreal.
“But it’s really special to be part of something I have always dreamed of.”
