The president’s complaint praised with surprise while the spiral deaths in Gaza and the Israeli forces accused of more “war crimes” to shoot hungry in search of food aid.
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said that he thought that a cease-fire in Gaza between Israel and Hamas could be reached in a week.
On Friday, Trump came out with the surprise comment while talking to journalists, saying that he was full of hope after talking to some of the people involved to try to get a truce.
“I think it’s close. I just talked to some of the people involved,” said Trump.
“We believe that in the next week, we are going to get a cease-fire,” said the president, without revealing who he had been in contact with.
The Nour Odeh of Al Jazeera, postponing from Amman to Jordan, said that Trump’s comment will be “a new welcome” in the hungry and bombed population of Gaza, but it also warned that there was “no negotiations at the moment which is happening in the region”.
“What we know is that the word of a ceasefire has increased exponentially after the ceasefire between Israel and Iran. Israel does not want to speak of the war. In fact, the Israeli Prime Minister risked much if he did,” said Odeh.
But, she added, there is an understanding, according to many reports, that Netanyahu should accept a kind of ceasefire in exchange for standardization transactions with the Arab states, which the Trump administration has promoted.
Hamas, on the other hand, requires that Israel stops its war in Gaza and for the Israeli army to retire from the areas it seized in Gaza after having broken the last ceasefire in March.
“Hamas also wants us to guarantee that the negotiations would continue and that Israel would no longer break the cease-fire if more time was necessary for negotiations,” added Odeh.
The prediction of Trump’s ceasefire intervenes at a time of growing killings by Israeli forces in Gaza and the growing international condemnation of the War of Israel in the middle of the last revelation that the soldiers declared that they were ordered to shoot Palestinian civilians who are not armed in search of humanitarian aid on the territory.
The Gaza authorities said that the Haaretz media report that Israeli commanders ordered that the deliberate shooting of hungry Palestinians was another proof of Israel’s “war crimes” in the territory torn by war.
While Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz rejected the reports of commanders targeting civilians, the Gaza Ministry of Health has reported that nearly 550 Palestinians have been killed near the support points supported by the United States and Israel in Gaza since late May.
“People are just killed by trying to eat themselves and their families,” the United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on Friday. “Food search should never be a death sentence,” he said.
Medical charities without borders (also known by its French acronym MSF) marked the situation in Gaza as “slaughtering of slaughter as humanitarian aid”.
A spokesperson for Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, said they had no information to share on a possible ceasefire breakthrough in Gaza.
Witkoff helped American assistants Joe Biden negotiate a ceasefire and a captive liberation agreement in Gaza shortly before Trump’s start in January. But the truce was broken by Israel in March when he launched a wave of surprise bombing attacks across the territory.
Israeli officials said that only military action would return to the captives held in Gaza and imposed a blockage to food, water, drugs and fuel entering the territory which led to a widespread famine among the 2.1 million inhabitants.
The Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, is expected to visit Washington next week for interviews with officials of Trump administration in Gaza, Iran and a possible visit to the White House by Netanyahu, according to a source familiar with the issue.
