Lambourn extended the stellar record of Aidan O’Brien in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby, when he became the 20th horse to follow the success of Epsom in Curragh with a victory fighting against a serious competitor.
Sent the favorite 8-13 to repeat his triumph of Epsom, Ryan Moore tried to reproduce the inspired journey of Wayne Lordan on the Surrey Downs, but met the severe resistance of the second channel of Ralph Beckett, Sir Dinadan, who refused to let Lambarn take place.
Moore attracted Epsom’s hero sprinkling the home turn and although Sir Dinadan’s challenge began to wither, he was the teammate of Ballydoyle and King George V Stakes Finner-Up seled content in the hands of Gavin Ryan who loaded a big threat.
The pair of Ballydoyle began to harden inside the last Stolong, but Lambourn turned out to be a voluntary ally for Moore when his endurance and classical quality came in the foreground by three quarters of length and won a place in history books alongside her Sire Australia and her grandchilder Galileo, who also made the Anglo-Irish Double derby.
A serious competitor finished second at 28-1, with the finalist of Charlie Johnston, Lazy Griff, remaining third at the third at 14-1.
“It’s a very simple horse that gets the trip well,” said O’Brien.
“Ryan was going to be happy if someone came with him because it keeps him concentrated. He is a little relaxed, a little lazy and you could see the right he was waiting for all the time but it is him. Ryan gave him a beautiful ride.
“Ryan thought he would continue to withdraw and priced his ears all along.
“He could be a King George horse, he could be an arc horse. He gets the trip well and is very solid and very authentic.
“We take care of the second horse for a handicap in Ascot that we thought that he could not be beaten, then a horse came to fight us that had entered King George, so it will just show what can happen.”
Skukuza of Ed Dunlop again showed his taste for Curragh during the complaint of COLM MCLLUHLIN COLM CELECTION issues.
The four-year-old had made a successful raid on a precious handicap on the Kildare track on the day of 2,000 Irish Guinea, but this time was back for the action listed and was sent to 11-4 in the hands of Ryan Moore.
Quickly sent to the business manager by his big race pilot, the Newmarket Traveler never missed a beat at the front while Moore dictated the pace before sending his mount to ensure a victory of two and a quarter on the Currawood of Johnny Murtagh, with the favorite Currawood of Paddy Twomey 2-1 further in the third.
Robin Trevor Jones, travel chief traveling to Ed Dunlop, said: “We directed him in the Britannia last year when he ran a big race (second) but that really hunted him and we could not risk it on this fast ground in Ascot this year.
“It was a courageous decision not to run when you are one of the favorites for the Royal Hunt Cup, but the plan worked. It is now listed, so we grow.
“Ryan really wanted to take an advance, but he did not expect at any pace, so he said that I should perhaps do my own race, which he did. The horse never did this, but he did everything correctly and I think he went, the more he was going to win.
“He likes to come back here for the classic days, so maybe there is something for him on the day of the oaks!”
Vespertilio preceded the winner last year, my companion Alfie, in an exciting finish at the Ebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Dash Stakes in Curragh.
One of the stable stars of Willie McCreery, Verspertilio was not beaten far in the challenges of Greenland on this course and the distance the last time, but was sentenced this time by Dylan Browne McMonagle.
While my companion of Ger Lyons Alfie produced his honest customary challenge of the place near the rhythm, Browne Mcmonagle found himself towards the back of the field while the race began to develop, but he had a voluntary partner because the girl of Night of Thunder quickly woven his way towards a strike distance.
He was soon left to the 2-1 favorite to fight against the conclusion with his main rival market, my companion Alfie, with just a short head separating them on arrival, while Vespertilio tasted for the first time for the first time since the claim for the two-year-old child.
McCreery said: “She needs a blanket and a lot of speed. Dylan was very patient and said that when she hit her forehead, she thought she had done everything and got up.
“I am delighted to recover it within the winner’s grounds. She won a group two here at the age of two and finished third in a French Guinea.
“It was difficult to persuade the owners to bring it back to six stages because it had such a good shape on a mile, but it borne fruit – Night of Thunder is a lot of speed, the important thing is to deactivate it early.
“We could opt for Maurice de Gheest. She has a bonus of a French breeder, so she gets another bonus over if she does it there.”
