Never so brave has immersed himself in the last Stolong to deny the Lynas to a rider before in the stakes of Mile Summer of Cornish Orchards in Ascot.
The longtime leader was clearly starting to feel the pace with two stadiums to run, with the winners of the Royal Réunion never so courageous and Haatem in pursuit and finally to the capture of Lynas inside the Mile.
The Mount of Spencer dug deeply but could not finally retain 11-8 shot never so courageous and David Probert, who triumphed by three-quarters of length, with 11-10 favorite hatem to be satisfied with third, beaten with an additional three-quarters.
Balding told Sky Sports Racing: “It was a little nervous to be honest because I was confident by entering it that if the horse relaxed, it was good enough to win today. It was relaxed beautifully, but obviously, we had to do a little earlier than we thought because Jamie was unleashed, but we are delighted with his progress.
“We put it in the Lennox (Goodwood issues) but we were eager to try the mile but it is a very versatile horse, I think it could be effective in six furlans and up to a mile – it’s just a very good horse.
“I don’t know (if we go to Goodwood), I will have to discuss it with the owner, because obviously it has opened a few other options, knowing that there is a mile, so we will see.”
