At the end of the 1990s, the calm of a small Russian town was broken when Irina Ganyushkina fell into a police station – a getaway of a living nightmare.

Irina revealed to the authorities that she was one of the five kidnapped women and was captive in a secret underground bunker by a notorious serial killer: Aleksandr Komin, nicknamed “the maniac”.

For Irina and the other survivors, freedom was only the beginning. In a country where women’s violence stories are too often rejected, they have now faced a new challenge: to rebuild their life after an unimaginable horror.
