Torrential rains that whipped South Korea killed at least 18 people and left nine other disappeared people, the authorities said, while the government had raised opinions for heavy rains and the warning meteorological agency of a return of heat waves in the southern regions of the country.

Monday’s record came while South Korea soldiers also announced that the sending of thousands of soldiers in areas ravaged by rain to help with recovery efforts.

The showers began on July 16 and brought some of the strongest time precipitation ever recorded to some of the central provinces and southern South Korea. The five -day flood collapsed from the houses, sparked landslides and sparked sudden floods that swept cars and campers.

At least 10 people were killed in the county of southern Sancheong, and four others remain disappeared, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Security.

The troops will revise the houses and stores affected by the rains, he said.

Hannah June Kim, an associate professor at the Graduate School of International Studies from the University of Sogang in Seoul, told Al Jazeera that “many people were caught up in” because the monsoon rains came later than expected this year.

“The wait was that the monsoons did not appear during this summer,” she said. “So when this heavy rain started falling last week, many local areas were not prepared.”

“We see the heavy effects of climate change and how it affects different areas,” she added.

Korea in Korea in South Korea (KMA) provides for more precipitation in the southern regions on Monday, but said that a heat wave would follow. According to the Jongang Daily, opinions and warnings of heat waves have already been published for certain parts of South Jeolla, the east coast of Gangwon and the island of Jeju.

“From July 24 onward, Morning Lows Will Remain Between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius (73.4f to 78.8f), and Daytime Highs will Range from 30 to 35 degrees Celsius (86f to 95f), Higher Than the Seasonal Assresses of 22 to 25 degrees Celsius (71.6f to 77F) Morning and 29 to 33 degrees Celsius (84.2F to 91.4F) during the day, “he reported, citing KMA.

Scientists say that climate change has made extreme and more intense extreme weather events in the world.

In 2022, South Korea underwent rains and record floods, which killed at least 11 people.

They included three people who died trapped in an apartment in the Seoul basement of the genre who became internationally known because of the Oscar -winning Korean parasite.

The government said at the time that precipitation has been the heaviest since the start of the files, blaming climate change for extreme weather conditions.
