Oval Invincibles produced the third highest score in the history of hundreds of women when they won a first comfortable victory of the season by 22 points on Birmingham Phoenix in Edgbaston.
The former captain of Australia Meg Lanning slipped 36 on 19 balls in an opening stand of 76 points with the invincible skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill (33), posing the foundations so that Alice Capsey can capitalize on the right start.
Capsey, who has fought for England in the past 12 months, but she recently shone for Surrey and has demonstrated lightning of her best shape on the biggest stages in a 29-ball sparkling.
Paige Scholfield added 25 non on 16 deliveries because the invincibles, who lost their first two games this year, posted 174 for five, their highest total and the third best in the history of the event.
Amanda-Jade Wellington, for a golden duck, took the front of the stage in the answer, following a juggling catch to reject Georgia Voll (22) with a back of the back to exhaust Emma Lamb (25).
Between the two, the rotation of the legs in Australia took the counters of Marie Kelly and Ellyse Perry, who looked dangerous on the 29th before plucking behind, finally putting the charge of Phoenix while they settled for 152 for six.
“It is good to obtain a victory in the table after two narrow defeats. The openers were brilliant. One of our reflections after the first two games was that we are so deeply fighting that we can take more calculated risks,” said Alice Capsey, hero of Meerkat’s match.
“They took the game so well and it made my work quite easy – to maintain the momentum and continue to put pressure. The terrain played better than I thought and came quite well.
“Overcoming the line was essential and now we are going back to the oval – we can gain a lot of confidence and we like to play there.”
