A British man accused of having led his vehicle to the crowd celebrating the victory of the title of the Premier League of Liverpool faces 24 additional criminal charges, the prosecutors revealed at his last court hearing.
Former British sailor Paul Doyle, 53, seemed to tears when he joined the hearing Thursday at Liverpool Crown runs via Prison Videolink, when the details of the new counts arise from The May 26 incident emerged.
Merseyside police now say that 134 people were injured when Doyle would have led his Titanium Ford Galaxy to crowds that left the Liverpool seafront after a victory parade.
The 31 accusations in total have now filed 29 victims, aged six months and 77, said the court.
Six relate to children, including two babies – a six -month -old at the time and a seven -month -old – who were injured when the car hit people massaged on Water Street in the city center.
Supporters of the city’s world renowned football team had ravaged its streets to celebrate the 20th record title of the club, scenes of joy, the scenes of joy have turned into horror.
Doyle, a father of three children in the city’s Croxteth district, was initially accused of seven offenses, including dangerous driving and serious bodily lesions with intention.
He now faces several additional counts under this and other accusations, including 19 for trying to cause serious bodily lesions, three injuries with intention and an assignment.
Doyle, carrying a gray t-shirt, did not call at the 20-minute hearing, which several parents of the victims and more than 20 media members attended.
Judge Andrew Menary postponed the case until September 4, when Doyle should judge pleadings.
Earlier this year, a provisional trial date was set for November 24, the case which should last three to four weeks.
