Governor Gavin Newsom called on California legislators on Thursday to approve a voting measure of November which would allow them to redraw the card of the State Congress in order to retaliate against the republican redistigation plans in the middle of the decades in Texas and elsewhere.
Newsom’s proposal, called “law on the response to electoral fuel”, will open the way to the Democrats of California to bypass the independent commission which controls the process of drawing the card in the State and transmitting new lines of the congress which would be more favorable to their party.
This decision comes as the Republicans in Texas, with the support of President Donald Trump, continue a new Congress card which would allow them to win up to five other seats at home.
“It is not complicated. We do this in response to a President of the United States who called a Governor in office of the State of Texas and said:” Find five seats “,” said Newsom. “We do it in reaction to this act. We are aware of our superior angels and our best angels. We are careful that we want to model better behavior, as we have been doing for 15 years in the state of California with our independent redistribution commission. But we cannot unilaterally disarm.”
Californian democrats need the approval of others to bypass the state independent redistribution commission, and the clock check so that the legislators approve a voting initiative for this year of November 4. If the measurement passes, it would allow new cards to be enacted in time for the mid-term elections of 2026.
Several other Democratic leaders in California appeared alongside Newsom during an event on Thursday, supervising their effort to rediscover mid-December as a wider Trump reprimand and the actions of its administration.
Sara Sadhwani, a member of the California redistribution committee who spoke during Thursday’s event, warned that immigration agents were outside the place where the rally took place and arrested.
Sadwani said Trump “transformed our cities into police states.”
“We look at the establishment of the executive which undoubtedly makes our founding fathers run in their tombs,” she said.
California’s decision is the next burst of what has become a national sector states between the states led by the Republicans and Democrats in response to a plan to redesign the lines of the Congress in Texas to fill the majority of the GOP in the Chamber of the United States.
Last month, after Trump’s audience urgesAbbott called the Texas Legislative Assembly controlled by the GOP for a special session which included a rare rethink in mid-December from the Congress card outside the typical cycle of another time.
Newsom told journalists after the rally that the state legislature would officially launch the effort on Monday thanks to a series of bills.
“We plan that the legislature will move quickly and at the end of next week, they will finish this work,” he said.
He added that the new cards offered would appear in the coming days and that he expected that they “neutralize and neutralize” in Texas.
Newsom said that if the red states were not going forward with redistribution, California’s efforts would not be necessary, but have added that “we are not waiting”.
In an interview with CNBC earlier this month, Trump said the Republicans were “entitled to five other seats” in Texas.
The Republicans already hold 25 of the 38 seats in the Texas Congress, but Trump won 27 of these seats in the presidential election last year. If the new republican drawing cards come into force, 30 of these seats will have voted for Trump last year.
“Wake up, America. Wake up what Donald Trump is doing,” Newsom said on Thursday. “Wake up to his assault. Wake up with the assault against institutions, knowledge and history.”
The move of the Republicans in Texas has prompted dozens of Democrats in the Chamber of State to flee the State to refuse the Republicans a quorum, the minimum number of legislators required to be present for the Chamber to examine the legislation. For almost two weeks, the Democrats seated for dozens of interviews and have held press conferences aimed at criticizing the GOP plan and calling for Democratic governors to promise to respond by seeking to redraw their cards to counter potential gop earnings in Texas, and perhaps other states.
Newsom was the most vocal of these governors, spending weeks warning that he is pushing to redraw California’s cards if the Republicans in other states have not resolved, and several times harassing Trump in interviews and on social networks.
Thursday, the president of the Democratic Caucus of Texas House Gene Wu said in a press release that two conditions must be met for legislators to return to the state. The first was for the Texas Republicans to end the current special session, which they should do on Friday. And the second was for Californian Democrats to offer their own new Congress cards.
“When the legislative assembly adjourn Sine Die and California presents its cards, we will return to the house and the courthouse with a clear message: the fight to protect the voting rights is just beginning,” said Wu.
But while Texas and other states led by the GOP which plan to red parting mid-December, largely, only need the approval of the legislatures and governors of the Gop-Majority, the The process in many blue states is much more complicated.
California needs the approval of the legislative assembly and then voters. The path is even more difficult in New York, where a proposed constitutional amendment should adopt two consecutive legislative sessions, then be approved by voters to a vote the following year. This long process ensures that, even if the Democrats succeed, the cards would not change before the 2028 elections at the earliest.
Newsom, through his social media account of the press office, recently took a new approach to public relations in the current salvs between him and the White House. In a series of messages on X, Newsom published All Caps statements, making fun of Trump’s messaging style while working to draw attention to his efforts.
“Donald ‘Taco’ Trump, as many call it,” missed “the deadline !!!” Newsom press office Written on x. “California will now attract new” beautiful cards “, they will be historic because they will end the Trump presidency (Dems will take over the house!). Big Press Conference this week with powerful Dems and Gavin Newsom – Your favorite governor – who will be devastating for” Maga “. Thank you for your attention to this case!”
