Jannik Sinner has extended his winning race on the fields of 25 games with a ruthless dismissal of Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarter-finals of Cincinnati.
Playing in his first tournament since he raised his fourth title of the Grand Chelem to Wimbledon, the World No. 1 and the reigning champion, was propelled to a 6-2 victory on Auger-Aliassime.
Auger-Aliassime had won his two previous games against Sinner, but could offer little resistance here, the start of the Italian and the end of the competition with races of six games in a row.
The sinner has not been beaten on its favorite surface since a defeat against Carlos Alcaraz in Beijing in early October of last year.
He will now face Holger Rune or the French qualification Terence Atmane, who amazed Taylor Fritz during the previous round.
“I felt that I was coming back very well,” he said.
“I think it was the key point, which gave me the confidence necessary to serve well. I had a small drop in the second set when it broke me. It could have been a little change but I am happy to have brought it back early.”
The second seeded Alcaraz plays its quarter -final Friday evening against Andrey Rublev, the ninth seeded, with the Spaniard on the other side of the drawing of the scenario.
