Google messages can now blur naked images on Android

The functionality can detect and blur the images that include nudity. However, this will only work if you are connected to a Google account in the messages application.

When messages detect and blur such an image, you can choose between several actions. You can access a resource page entitled “Learn why the naked images can be harmful”, block the sender number, come back to the main messages or opt to reject or display the image (press Next, then “No, do not visualize” or “yes, display”).

A warning will appear when you also go to send or transmit a naked image. Your device will remind you of the risk of doing so and you will have to recognize confirmation before sending the image.

Sensitive content warnings are activated by default for supervised users and parents and tutors can manage it via the Family Link application. Unleashed adolescents aged 13 to 17 can deactivate the function from their Google account settings. Adults will have to oppose if they want to use functionality. They can do so by going to Google’s messages> Protection and Safety> Manage sensitive content warnings> Warnings in Google messages.

Google has designed this feature thinking about confidentiality. Your device will process and classify images locally using Android System Safetycore tools. No identifiable data, classified content or results associated with this safety functionality (including all naked images detected) are sent to Google servers, The company says. Google also notes that the functionality is not perfect – it can sometimes wrongly determine that an image contains nudity when it does not do so, or allow those that present nudity to go through non -decreased.
