The man fleeing an immigration raid in California who mortally struck by a vehicle, say those responsible

A man was killed on a highway in southern California on Thursday when he went from an immigration raid to a home depot, the authorities announced.

Dylan Feik, Municipal Director of Monrovia, in the County of Los Angeles, about 10 miles northeast of Pasadena, said that a police officer saw the raid after the police service had received a call on American immigration and customs activity in the region.

During the activity, someone ran on the 210 highway, he said. Shortly after, firefighters and emergencies responded to a call from a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.

The person was taken to the hospital and died of injuries suffered during the incident, Feik said.

California Highway Patrol said that the victim was a man and that circumstances around his death were investigated. His identity was not published publicly.

Video recorded a few moments after the accident shows a man in a black t-shirt lying near the inner path of the highway.

Vincent Enriquez, who recorded the video, said that he thought at the beginning that it was a motorcycle accident.

“I was a little confused on the way he was on the highway,” he said. “I supposed that he had been hit by a car trying to cross, he had to get out of the vehicle of a car accident.”

The Ministry of Internal Security denied that his agents hunted the person and said they did not know the legal status of the person.

“This individual was not prosecuted by any application of the DHS law,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “We were not aware of this incident or notified by California Highway Patrol until hours after the conclusion of the region’s operations.”

Feik said the city had no additional information on the operation, including possible detentions, and that Monrovia has received no communication from ice.

Palmira Figueroa, spokesperson for the National Day Working Organizing NetWork, said 13 workers had been detained during the RAID. “It was a violent and aggressive bust,” she said. “Some of them were pursuing workers in cars while they fled.”

Network organizers try to reach family members, as well as other detained men, said Figueroa.

The videos published on social networks seem to show agents holding a person in the parking lot of the home depot, who did not immediately respond to a request for comments on the immigration activity.

Meeting of the State Assembly John Harabedian, whose district includes Monrovia, said in a statement on its Instagram history that 10 people had been held during the RAID.

“Raids like this do not make our streets safer-they terrorize families, instill fear and put lives in danger,” he said.

Immigration officials have concentrated many of their raids on home deposits and other home renovation retailers that day, workers are known.
