Musical success but relational challenges
Obviously, it was the right decision. The 1975 eponymous album of the group won place No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list and presented successes like “Landslide”, “Rhiannon”, “Over My Head” and “Say You Love Me”.
Subsequently, the group started working on their 1977 album Rumorswho was going to win the album of the year.
But while their star rose, relations between Nicks and Buckingham, McVies and Fleetwood and his wife Jenny Boyd were all collapsing.
“When we joined Fleetwood Mac, everything was really rocky between me and Lindsey,” said Nicks in the Do not stop documentary. “I think we have somehow made a little silent wish: let’s correct these relationships at the moment, because we cannot break up. We just can’t. If we do it, there will be no Mac Fleetwood.”
However, relations did END. In 1976, the MCVies divorced while Nicks and Buckingham separated (Fleetwood and Boyd would also break later).
And if the fans are really listening to the track – including “Don’t Stop” by Christine, “Dreams” by Nicks and “Go Your Way” by Buckingham – they can have an idea of what they were going through.
“My songs were on Lindsey, and Lindsey’s songs were all on me,” added Nicks, “and you just have to explode and play the song.”
