Apple blood oxygen surveillance returns to its latest Apple watches

Apple Announced Thursday It introduces a rethought blood oxygen functionality for certain series 8, Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra. With this decision, Apple brings blood surveillance to oxygen by refining functionality to bypass the import prohibition of the International Trade Commission (ITC).

Data on blood oxygen will be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone of the user, and the results can be viewed in the respiratory section of the Health Application. This means that users will not be able to display data from their Apple Watch because they will need to do so on their iPhone.

Apple says that the update announced today is activated by a recent decision of American customs, which means that the technology giant is authorized to import Apple watches with the functionality of redrawn blood oxygen.

The change does not affect the models previously sold with the original version of the function or the units purchased outside the United States

The redesign function only applies to Apple watches which were sold after the ITC import ban took effect at the beginning of 2024. These users can access the functionality of blood oxygen redrawn via an update of iPhone and Apple Watch software to come on Thursday.

This decision comes while Apple was in a legal dispute in progress with the manufacturer of medical devices Masimo, who accused the technology giant of stealing its oxymmetry technology of pulse after initial discussions on potential collaboration.

In 2023, fields won a victory against Apple At the ITC, to block imports of Apple watches with monitoring blood oxygen, after the Commission noted that Apple technology undermined Masimo patents. Apple then had to delete the functionality.
