The Argentine superstar returns from injury to score a goal and add a decisive pass as a Galaxy Inter-Downs at Chase Stadium.
Lionel Messi came back from an injury as a reserve and scored in the 84th minute to lead Inter Miami to a 3-1 victory against the title champions of the major leagues (MLS), Los Angeles Galaxy.
The 38 -year -old emblematic Argentinian striker was back on the ground on Saturday for Miami after suffering from what inter -Javier Mascherano coach called a “minor muscle injury” – an apparent leg of the legs – in the victory of the League Cup over the Mexican Necaxa leagues on August 2.
“It was something very small,” said Mascherano about his injury after the match. “The three training sessions we had were good. The important thing is that the match ended. Over the minutes, I saw it better. We have to see how it feels tomorrow.”
Eight times the winner of Golden Ball Messi, who missed a league cup victory against Pumas Unam and the MLS defeat last weekend in Orlando City, was on the bench as a reserve before entering in the second period, replacing Telasco Segovia.
“We had planned the match to give Leo (Messi). The idea was to give him 45 minutes so that he could find sensations,” said Mascherano. “I didn’t see him after the match. Tomorrow we will see what feelings he had.
“He is an extraordinary player. I saw that he was clearly not 100% comfortable, but over the minutes, he was relaxing more and more. We will have to see how he ended with fatigue.”
Jordi Alba scored for Miami in the 43rd minute, but Joseph Paintsil equalized for the galaxy in the 59th minute.
Messi dominates late
Messi’s brilliant goal of six minutes full -time – a thunderous left foot shot drawn from the edge of the penalty surface which carved in the lower corner of the net – restored the advance for Miami.
He then put the victory out of doubt with a sensational help in the 89th minute to his teammate Luis Suarez, who set up the local team 3-1.
Messi, the most useful player in the title of the MLS, has 19 goals and 10 assists in 19 MLS matches for Miami this season.
He also had herons in the quarter -finals of the League Cup, which they won in 2023, just after Messi’s arrival. Miami will face the tigers in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
“He wants to play every match,” said Mascherano. “You have to understand why Leo is Leo. He always wants to be on the ground. He is happy there. Sometimes, we try to explain it that we have to go slowly, but when he feels good, he knows himself like nobody. In the end, we tried to give him a few minutes today to start having good feelings for Wednesday.”
Inter Miami ranks fourth from the East MLS conference, six points behind MLS leaders, Philadelphia, but with three games in hand.
