Ruben Amorim praised his Manchester United team for not having been “boring” during the 1-0 defeat against Arsenal, but Roy Keane criticized the low expectations of the club after the defeat.
The attack on the new Look of United – composed of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo – impressed throughout the match while the Amorim team played with a new momentum in the future.
The hosts sparked a total of 22 shots towards the goal of the arsenal, with nine of them coming from Mbeumo and Cunha, as well as two of his other new arrival Benjamin Sesko out of the bench.
Despite their promise and threat, David Raya’s seven judgments in Old Trafford assured that Mikel Arteta’s team left with a white sheet and the three points in the afternoon after Altay Bayindir’s error gifted in Riccardo Calafiori the only goal of the game.
In the aftermath of the defeat, Amorim chose to focus on the positive points of performance, where he applauded their bravery and assault improved compared to last season.
“The most important thing-we were not boring. I am really proud of the guys. They were really courageous in everything they did during the match,” he said Sky Sports.
“Congratulations on performance, but not congratulations (for the result) because we lost the home match.
“We clearly deserve a different result and we have to go to the next.
“We were more aggressive than last year, we sprinted more, we were more courageous, we went against one for the whole match and we pressed high.
“With the ball, we have quality, even when the stadium makes sound, we continued to play as we play it. We have lost fewer balls in the accumulation compared to last year, when we fought a lot.
“We have to win matches, but it was a completely different match from last season.”
United will seek to convert another positive performance into points of their next match when they face Fulham, Live the Super SundayAugust 24.
Sky Sports’ Roy Keane adopted an opinion opposed to the evaluation of performance by Amorim, after having argued that there is still a source of concern to the club despite the encouraging projection of new recruits.
“The expectations of United Now are so weak that even Gary (Neville) said on comments, everyone agrees with a 1-0 defeat. They must do better,” said Keane Super Sunday.
“It worries me. Some of the new signatures, there were encouragement with this. They made you go up the ground with a little power.
“Things will improve, it’s difficult against Arsenal, but no goals and another defeat. There are still problems with Man UTD.”
Brandir United Legend and Sky Sports Pundit Gary Neville was no longer optimistic after defeat, when he focused on the positive performance of Cunha and Mbeumo, as well as other positive points that emerged from the loss.
Speaking after the match, he said: “I thought they (United) played well, they were the best team in terms of performance.
“We know that performance is not sometimes enough.
“There were positive points. Mbeumo in the first half and Cunha in the second half. They showed that they could manage a big game at Old Trafford, they showed that they had quality and capacity. We obviously know of Wolves.
“It is a difficult start. Arsenal is a difficult team to break down. I am not too discouraged. I thought that the system worked better and that the three rear did better.
“Casemiro and Fernandes did well in the midfield; they held up. Throughout the match, Man United was the best team, but they lost the match.”
