The manager of Crystal Palace, Oliver Glasner, retaliated with the rumors that Ebelechi Eze would not face Chelsea on Sunday in the midst of the interests of the transfer – and revealed that the liberation clause of the midfielder expired.
Tottenham is in discussion with Palace about an agreement for Eze as they seek to add a new No. 10 before the transfer date on September 1, and there were initially doubts as to whether it was in Stamford Bridge.
But Eze was appointed in Palace’s departure program against Chelsea the opening weekend of the Premier League and excluded a goal by an unusual law following a Var check in the 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge.
“Do not always believe what you read, especially on the internet,” said Glasner later on the reports that Eze would not be involved. “And here is the same thing, who tells you? Who knows that it is the truth, what is written? There are rumors and so many rumors, and everyone tells someone for their own advantage, perhaps.
“I look at the players every day in training sessions. If most of the things that are written about them are true, they could not play like that, the team could not be together like that, the team could not be engaged with each other as they are. It is simply not possible.
“He was chosen because he is a Crystal Palace player and he is a very good Crystal Palace player. He trained all week, so there was no reason not to choose it.”
Glasner then revealed that the liberation clause of 68 million pounds of Eze has now expired. He said: “I am quite calm, but I also know, we have two weeks to leave, and I know that the EBS clause has disappeared, so it’s the club’s decision, and we will see what will happen.”
Eze was one of the best targets of Spurs this summer. An offer has not yet been made and the palace appreciated it at 70 million pounds sterling, with two years to play on its contract.
Palace welcomes Fredrikstad Thursday during the first leg of their qualifying match of the UEFA and Glasner conference to expect Eze to be involved again.
He said: “He will come tomorrow (Monday) to the Crystal Palace training ground, and will be recovered. We will ensure a Tuesday leave and we will meet on Wednesday, and I expect him to return and play for us against Fredrikstad.”
Sky Sports’ Chris Sutton, speaking to Stamford Bridge, contrasting Eze’s situation with that of Alexander Isak in Newcastle – where he did not present for the club, or trained alongside his teammates, since he announced his desire to leave earlier this summer.
“He seems to be a good guy,” he said. “If the situation with Tottenham happens, it will happen. We have seen the situation in Newcastle with the way Alexander Isak has shot down and is not the most popular person among the faithful of Newcastle.
“If you are Oliver Glasner, you want your best players to start. Eze is one of them and the palace season last season was phenomenal, the best in their history.
“They will want to come to Stamford Bridge and get a result, and they have a better chance of doing this with Eze starting.”
Of this season, Sky Sports’ The coverage of the Premier League will go from 128 games to at least 215 live games.
