Matt Wallace aims to stay king of the mountains after having displayed towers of 65 and 63 on a second day of marathon to European masters disturbed by the weather to sit a whim from the clubhouse.
The race to catch up after the long fog delays on Thursday in Switzerland saw the title champion Wallace playing 36 holes on Friday, unable to start his first round on the first day.
The Englishman made 15 birdies and three bogeys on two towers to reach 12 under the peer and sit a blow behind Adrien Saddier from France.
Wallace continues an appearance of the Rookie Ryder Cup, with Luke Donald appointing his six captain choices on Monday, September 1, live from 2 p.m. Sky Sports.
Wallace said: “I had three big ones. I would say this in this way.
“The first nine this morning was not very good, but I managed to do it and I found something on the nine rear. I played very well this afternoon.
“I said to myself a few times today that I am the defending champion, so let’s try to keep it like this.”
The countryman of Wallace, Jordan Smith and South African, Thriston Lawrence, share third place on 11 in two towers, while many groups will start or finish their second round on Saturday morning, including English Matt Fitzpatrick.
