Russia called on the American strikes on “unjustified” and “not caused” Iran, while China warned that they “created a bad precedent”.
Russia and China have strongly condemned American attacks Iranian nuclear sitesWarning that they could train the world in a wider war and put a dangerous international precedent.
The reactions occurred a few hours before the launch of missiles at the American basis of Qatar in response to Sunday strikes.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described American strikes on Monday as “unjustified” and said they were pushing the world to a perilous tilting point.
Speaking after interviews with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in the Kremlin, Putin said that Moscow would try to help the Iranian people, but stopped in detail.
“Absolutely unlikely assault against Iran has no basis and no justification,” Putin told Araghchi. “For our part, we make efforts to help the Iranian people.”
The Chinese government has also weighed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, condemning both Israeli strikes on Iran and the American bombardment of its nuclear installations. He said the justification for attacking “possible future threats” had sent the bad signal to the world and urged a return to diplomacy.
Wang called for all parties to “immediately resume dialogue and negotiation”, warning climbing risked the destabilization of the region.
The tensions have skyrocketed in recent days, US President Donald Trump and Israeli officials openly discussing the possibility of murdering Iran’s supreme chief, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and putting pressure for the change of diet – moving the Kremlin could dive the region in a full war.
At the Kremlin high -level meeting on Monday, Araghchi would have given Putin a message from Khamenei, although the content was not disclosed. A senior Iranian source told the reuters news agency that the letter called for an increase in Russian support, but Moscow had not confirmed that it has received such a call.
Later, while approaching a rally of elite military recruits, Putin spoke more widely about increasing instability. “Extra-regional powers are also attracted to the conflict,” he said. “All this brings the world to a very dangerous line.”
Despite the signing of a 20 -year strategic pact with Iran earlier this year, Russia has avoided making concrete military commitments to defend Tehran, and the agreement has no mutual defense clause.
Iranian officials, speaking anonymously to Reuters, expressed their frustration with regard to the perceived inaction of Moscow. They said Tehran felt disappointed by Russia and China, despite repeated support calls.
The Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Ryabkov, refused to say if Iran had asked for weapons or military aid, but insisted on the bonds of Moscow with Tehran. “Our strategic partnership with Iran is unbreakable,” said Ryabkov, adding that Iran had the right to defend himself.
However, the Kremlin seems suspicious of any decision that could cause direct confrontation with Washington, especially since Trump seeks to mitigate tensions with Moscow in the midst of war in Ukraine. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that American developments in Iran would not affect Russia-US dialogue, describing them as “separate process”.
Memories Wars led by the United States in the Middle East Always linger. During the United Nations Security Council session on Sunday, the UN UN Vassily Nebenzia made comparisons with the Iraq Invasion 2003. He recalled how the United States claimed that Iraq had held weapons of mass destruction.
“Once again, we are asked to believe the fairy tales of the United States,” said Nebenzia. “This cements our conviction that history has taught our American colleagues.”
Russia, China and Pakistan jointly submitted a resolution calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.
