Harry Kane scored the only goal when Terne England worked on a 1-0 World Cup qualification victory against Andorra.
These are three victories of three for the team of Thomas Tuchel in group K, but it was a disappointing stage on the road to the World Cup.
The difficulties of England to unravel the defenses of their classified adversaries 173rd will not have done much to convince the observers of their skills titles to continue and win the tournament next summer.
They were hooked by some of their supporters inside the stadium spying upon half-time and although Kane finally converted at close range after the interval, there was little entertainment served with the three fans of lions who had made the trip to Spain. Unhappy, they again clarified their full -time feelings.
Noni Madueke provided Kane for this easy finish and the Chelsea winger was the only player to really favor his prospects under Tuchel, adding a certain speed and a goal to a screen in the second order. He should have marked his performance with a late Tap-in, but rather tried to go to Anthony Gordon.
There were bad touches and target passes while a disjointed England achieved a disjointed performance in the first half – and this lack of verve and precision continued throughout the competition. Curtis Jones was somehow in all kinds of recovery of fortune, Dan burns the rhythm and Cole Palmer largely ineffective.
Jude Bellingham and Morgan Rogers showed lightning of their quality and Sub Ebelechi Eze had a reverse head late, but England seriously lacked a spark in the last third against the determined and well -organized opposition. It is a familiar problem of the EUME campaign.
There was even a little fortune for England that Ricard Fernandez or Guillaume Lopez did not capitalize in some dangerous positions and who made their way during the second half. It could have transformed a frustrating evening into an alarming evening.
The high temperatures in Barcelona did not help the spectacle, the part of England missing from tempo as well as inspiration sometimes. The planning of the match, at the end of the season, is another warning.
But even if it was a different scenario, the level of England was kilometers from the performance of the potential rivals of the World Cup in Spain, France, Germany and Portugal, last week in the semi-finals of the League of Nations. They have significant progress to make before next summer if they want to offer winning tournament performance in the heat of a North American World Cup.
England manager Thomas Tuchel on ITV:
“We are not satisfied with the performance, of course. We started fairly well in the first 20 or 25 minutes, but it was the only time it was as if it was only a matter of time. We created a lot of chances, half-games and shots, and I had the impression that we were going to score and continue.
“But we completely lost our momentum and could not recover it from all the first half. We got a little in the first 15 minutes of the second, but we then found ourselves in a period which was not far enough.
“There was a lack of emergency, quality and energy.”
England captain Harry Kane in ITV:
“Of course, we can play better. It was not our greatest performance, not many people will remember it, but we can learn. It is very hot, dry terrain, very similar conditions to the World Cup next year.
“We will leave and analyze, we had good spells in the game, but we could not regularly have attacked after attacking. We take the points and move on.
“We were not good enough on the ball, there were not enough passes forward and the most important thing is that we continued to give it.
Rob Dorsett from Sky Sports News in Barcelona:
“Tuchel has tinkered but he leaves Barcelona with more questions than answers. For me, he overcomed it, with so many out-of-position players. England lacked energy and invention, and but for the brilliant Madueke, it could have been much worse. It was he who missed it, to the wrong.
“Andorra credit, who defended brilliantly, but England asked too many questions on 90 minutes. Tuchel will have difficult questions to answer. And he will have to admit that he was wrong.
“A 1-0 victory compared to the fourth worst team throughout Europe is equivalent to embarrassment. And support in England allowed players to know exactly what they felt at the final whistle.”
Sky Sports’ Roy Keane on ITV:
“We are trying to apologize for England, but I thought that when they scored the goal, they estimated that it was work. I was really disappointed with their attitude when they scored. The manager cannot be satisfied with the effort during the last half hour.
“Overall, especially in the second period, the attitude was not great.”
