A 47 -year -old man was ejected from Anfield following racist violence reports to the Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, during their first Premier League match against Liverpool, Merseyside police announced.
Police said that an investigation was underway after confirmation of the man’s identity and that he had been removed from the ground.
The match was arrested in the 28th minute after an alleged racist comment was intended for Semenyo.
Arne Slot and Andoni Iraola were spoken by referee Anthony Taylor after the match break.
“I am told via the Premier League match center that Antoine Semenyo was the subject of a racist commentary on the crowd,” reported Sky Sports’ Peter Drury on comments.
“It was Semenyo himself who attracted him attention.”
Sky Sports’ Laura Hunter, present in Anfield, later reported that a fan was ejected from the stadium.
“In the wake of stopping the game after Semenyo said Racist has mistreated, Liverpool staff and police were in conversation on the side of the field and during half-time.
“And just before the start of the second half, we saw a fan escorted by police.”
Captain of Bournemouth, Adam Smith, described the incident as “unacceptable” while the head coach Iraola added: “It’s a great shame, most of the news will be on this thing. Obviously, it is something that is always a big problem, not only in football.
“On the side of Liverpool, they identified this person.”
The Premier League said that the incident would now be “fully investigated”.
“This evening’s match between Liverpool Football Club and AFC Bournemouth was temporarily interrupted during the first half after a discriminatory abuse report, directed against Antoine Semenyo de Bournemouth. This complies with the anti-discrimination statement on the field of the Premier League,” said the first League in a statement.
“Anfield’s incident will now be fully investigated. We offer our total support to the player and two clubs. Racism has no place in our game or anywhere in society. We will continue to work with stakeholders and authorities to ensure that our stadiums are an inclusive and welcoming environment.”
Liverpool said in a statement that they “condemn racism and discrimination in all forms” and that they would fully support the current police investigation on the incident.
The FA said that it was “very concerned” by the incident and would work with the parties concerned to “ensure that the appropriate measures are taken”.
“We are very concerned about the allegation of discrimination in an area of the crowd, which was reported to the officials of the match during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Bournemouth,” the FA in a statement.
“The incidents of this nature do not have their place in our game, and we will work closely with match officials, clubs and competent authorities to establish the facts and guarantee that the appropriate measures are taken.”
Bournemouth captain Adam Smith said Sky Sports He was “angry” and “shocked” by the incident, which occurred before Semenyo marks twice during a 4-2 defeat.
“It’s totally unacceptable,” he said. “I am in shock that this has happened. Nowadays, it should not happen. I do not know how Ant has played and that I am at the origin of these goals. I am sorry for Ant. It is a little broken. Something must be done. Take a knee, it is to have an effect. We will support it in it and I hope it will go well.
“I wanted him (Semenyo) to react because that is what I would have done. I would have gone directly there. It shows what type of man he should not react, even when he came not to react, to continue, then he pointed out to ref. To achieve these objectives shows the type of guy he is and the type of character he had.
“It’s more angry, to be honest. Shocked. I told the referee that I wanted him (the supporter) immediately removed. He said that we have to go through a process and that the police would sort him.
“We had discussions with the Premier League (on discriminatory comments) so that they took it seriously, but speaking to some of the guys in there, I don’t know what else we can do. We have been doing it for a long time and nobody understands it. I don’t know what to say.
Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola said:
“I didn’t notice live, there were a lot of screaming people. But immediately, Antoine and the referee explained the situation to the two managers. On the side of Liverpool, they identified this person.
“It’s a shame that the first match of the Premier League, we have to start talking about things we have conceded in the past. Obviously, it is not in the past because we have to continue to strengthen messages.
“Antoine was calm, he continued to play. We asked him, he was good to continue, he looked composed. Unfortunately, the head always goes to these things and it is sure to ask:” Why do these things happen today? “It’s a great shame.”
Liverpool head coach Slot Arne said:
“It is under investigation with the police now. We have made a very clear statement. This day should concern Diogo (JOTA) and the tribute, but we have to remedy it. It is unacceptable. I told him (Semenyo) after the match to say that we will do everything to find this person and wherever we can try to help you.
“The merit, it is very very mentally, to obtain such a solid performance in the second half after that shows the kind of player he is. Unacceptable in football in general, not to mention Anfield.”
Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk Tell in Sky Sports:
“I told him about it during and after the match. I am glad the authorities are treated there. I told him everything he needed, we’re here for him. I hold it. This will be treated by the authorities and the club.
“I can speak for all Liverpool fans that these things cannot happen and they will all suit that Antoine needs our support.”
Gary Neville from Sky Sports:
“This overshadows what should be an incredible night. The first day of the Premier League season, a beautiful day. And this boy has (reported) racly abused. It is contemptible. I cannot imagine what is happening by the spirit of this fan. However, it happens. It will continue to happen. It is a sorry state.
“Four or five weeks ago, Salford City, a club that I have, there was a racism incident and the manager and the players left the field and did not finish the last seven or eight minutes of the game. I am not saying that it should have happened this evening, but we will arrive at a point where the players were going to join if these incidents continue to perform in the stadiums.
“You can see the disappointment, the shock and the players of the players continued to have the second most incredible half after what he experienced, which speaks volumes about his personality and his character.
“It’s despicable, it’s really. Just.
Jamie Carragher by Sky Sports:
“With the number of campaigns we have, it is shocking to see an incident like this. An incident shocking and rightly reported to the referee.
“There is a lot of good work that is done in the country in terms of football. I understand where Adam Smith comes from what we can do else about this and that these things do not work. It’s so difficult when you just have an idiot in the crowd, how do you do the police?”
