Armenia stops an eminent archbishop on an alleged couplier plot | News

Archbishop Bagrat Gallstanyan, leader against the Prime Minister, is accused of a conspiracy to overthrow the government.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the security officials had counted a coup d’etat involving a leading Clerk from the National Church of Armenia.

The arrest of the Archbishop Bagrat Gallstanyan, head of the Holy Lutte opposition movement, marks a strong climbing in the dead end of Pashinyan on Wednesday with the direction of the powerful apostolic church.

The church chief, Catholos Garegin II, called for the resignation of passengers after Armenia lost a war against Azerbaijan in Mass manifestations conducted Last year, aimed at overthrowing the Prime Minister, channeing generalized public anger in the face of military defeats and Territorial concessions in Azerbaijan.

“The law enforcement agents prevented an important and sinister plan from the” criminal-oligarchic clergy “to destabilize the Republic of Armenia and seize power,” Pashinyan wrote on Facebook on Wednesday, sharing a declaration by the Armenia Inquiry Committee.

The committee said he had filed criminal charges against Gallstanyan and 15 others, who, according to them, had “acquired the means and tools necessary to commit a terrorist attack and grasp power”.

A total of 14 people were arrested, the investigators said, without naming them.

The committee’s statement said that Gostanyan – who had previously expressed his desire to replace Pashinyan as a Prime Minister, although he is unable to take office because of being a double Armenian -Canadian citizen – sought to overthrow the government with the help of his supporters.

He said that the group had recruited around 1,000 people, mainly former soldiers and police, and divided them into strike groups, allocating a task to destabilize the country, blocking roads, encouraging violence or blocking the Internet.

He said that the group had acquired weapons, explosives and other dangerous materials in preparation for the plot.

He said research was underway at Galstanyan’s home and around 30 of his partners.

The Committee also published audio recordings supposed to reveal Gallstanyan and others discussing plans for the alleged coup d’etat.

‘We arrive’

News.am, an Armenian website, published images from Galstanyan taken from his house in a car by masked and chased police.

“Evil, listen carefully-whatever you do, you have very little time. Wait, we come,” he said in an apparent reference to Pashinyan, while a crowd outside has shouted “Nikol is a traitor,” reported the AFP news agency.

A legislator close to Gallstanyan, Garnik Danielyan, said that the raids were “actions of a dictatorial regime” and said that the accusations against the archbishop had been manufactured, AFP reported.

Wednesday’s developments are following the arrest of another opponent of the government eminent earlier this month, when the Russian-Armenian real estate billionaire Samvel Karapetyan was detained during accusations to make public calls to Usurp Power, reported the Reuters press agency.

Divided nation

The humiliating military defeat of Armenia by Azerbaijan, resulting in 2023 from Naorno-KarabakhA separatist enclave in Azerbaijan, left bitter divisions in Armenia, notably between Pashinyan and the Apostolic Church.

Earlier this month, Pashinyan tried without success to avoid GareGin II as church leader, calling on the faithful to elect a new spiritual leader to “liberate” the Church, AFP reported.

Russia, an ally of the Treaty of Armenia, said that the alleged coupli-state conspiracy was an internal affair for Yerevan, but that it was interested in calm and order, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
