At least 28 people are also injured in the accident between a bus and a minibus in the region distant from Kilimandjaro.
At least 38 people were killed in a collision between a bus and a minibus in Tanzania and a fire that swallowed the two vehicles.
According to a press release from the presidency on Sunday, the accident, which took place on Saturday evening in Sabasaba in the Kilimandjaro region, occurred after one of the bus tires was perforated, which caused the driver of the vehicle to be lost.
“A total of 38 people died in the accident, including two women,” the statement said.
“Due to the extent of burns, 36 bodies remain unidentified.”
The nationalities of the victims were not immediately known.
Twenty-eight people were injured, six of whom were still in the hospital for treatment, added the presidency.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed “sincere condolences” to bereaved families.
“May God give peace to the souls of the disappeared and to a rapid recovery of the wounded. That he comforts and strengthens their families during this difficult period,” said Hassan.
The president has also called for more strict road safety membership, as deadly vehicle accidents are frequent on the roads of Tanzania.
In recent years, the government has spent repeated calls to curb road accidents, which continue to seduce the country despite various road safety campaigns.
In a 2018 World Health Organization report, around 13,000 to 19,000 people in the country were killed in traffic accidents in 2016, much higher than the government’s official assessment of 3,256 people.
