Lando Norris took a dominant pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix while the drama of the late yellow flag left the leader of the Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen frustrated championship.
Norris has exceeded each session since the second training and continued his superb form in qualification, beating Charles Leclerc with pole of more than half a second – the largest pole margin of the 2025 F1 season so far.
Piastri, who is 22 points ahead of Norris in the pilot championship, and Verstappen could not finish his last third quarter traces due to yellow flags caused by a stone gas rotation, but the two drivers would have had trouble beat the steering wheel Norris.
Lewis Hamilton recorded his best qualification of the year in fourth row, ahead of George Russell and Liam Lawson from Racing Bulls.
Verstappen had to be satisfied with seventh but was on the right track to be in the front row until he was forced to abort his knees before the penultimate corner for the rotation gas.
