Seven months after his successful fight against the former 58 -year -old heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, the Youtube celebrity boxer, Jake Paul, will return to the ring to face another former world champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Chavez JR, 39, is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) champion of average weights that has not held a major boxing title in 13 years and has only fought in the past three and a half years. He has also had well -documented personal problems in recent years.
Here is everything you need to know about the Paul-Chavez fight:
The combat evening is Saturday, June 28, with six Undercard fights before the main fight.
The Walk Ring for Paul-Chavez JR is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Hour (PST) Saturday (03:00 GMT on Sunday) and the fight will start shortly after.
The Honda Center in Anaheim, California, is the place of combat.
It has a seat capacity of around 7,000 for boxing events.
In February, Paul said that Canelo Alvarez had “dropped” a fight with him to sign a lucrative agreement for four fights with the Riyadh de Turki Alashik season, based in Saudi Arabia.
In a video published on his account on social networks, Paul showed what he said to be a contract signed by himself and Alvarez for a fight to be held in Las Vegas on May 3.
“The truth is that you (Alvarez) could be bought,” said Paul at the time. “You are an acute money squirrel to continue your next nut.
Chavez JR, which has organized a major major boxing title for the last time in 2012, has had trouble inside and outside the ring in recent years.
In November 2021, his defeat in the shock by the decision to share the 46 -year decision, Anderson Silva, 46 years old, in a cross boxing match undoubtedly was the lowest – and most embarrassing – professional boxing career. By coincidence, Paul beat Silva in a fight last year.
The personal problems of Mexican have included a lack of motivation, a repeated failure to gain weight for fighting, alcohol and drug addiction, an arrest for illegal possession of a firearm in his house in Los Angeles and a failed drug screening test. During the launch of Paul-Chavez’s fight in May in the Avalon in Hollywood, Paul made fun of Chavez’s dependence problems as well as his “lack of mentality”.
“I’m going to embarrass him and pass him as he still does,” said Paul. “I’m going to exhibit it. It will be embarrassment of Mexico. There are two things that you cannot beat – me and your drug addiction. ”
Paul acquired fame as a social media star on YouTube who turned into a boxer and has a file of 11-1.
The 28 -year -old is one of the main attractions of sport despite not having traditional combat pedigree thanks to a boxing association.
His fight last November with Tyson, which Paul won in a decision of eight rounds, culminated at 64 million competing flows on Netflix.
Jake Paul has won at least $ 60 million since the start of his boxing career, according to several sources.
Son of Julio Cesar Chavez, legendary world champion with three divisions, Chavez JR has amassed a professional boxing record of 53 victories (34 ko), six defeats and a draw on a 17 -year career.
Chavez was crowned champion of the average WBC weights in 2011 after beating Sebastian Zbik from Germany. He defended the title three times and was considered to be at the higher level of average weight boxers alongside his Mexican compatriot, Canelo Alvarez.
But a series of disappointing results, starting with a defeat against Sergio Martinez in 2012 to a unilateral defeat against Alvarez in 2017, sent his rails career.
Chavez’s professional record has been a mediocre 8-6 since 2012. Despite its many personal problems, Chavez JR is still considered armed with advanced boxing competence which will be a step in competition for the novice fighter Paul.
“I would say that Chavez will most likely be the most difficult opponent (I still faced), the most experienced, literally the most fights of all my opponents,” said Paul during an interview with Dazn Boxing.
“Yes (I am motivated to put an end to Paul’s career),” said Chavez JR on the podcast Ariel Helwani on June 18. “(I always think) that I am better than Jake Paul, so I think that after this fight, maybe Jake continues to fight (and try) to be a (better) boxer, but I don’t think he has () skills and everything (necessary) Win (against me).
