The British and Irish lions approached Australia, head coach Andy Farrell revealing persistent injury problems concerning Jamison Gibson-Park and Hugo Keenan.
The Farrell team arrived in Perth after a 20 -hour Dublin trip via Doha before Saturday’s opening match on Australian soil against the Western force.
There is a doubt as to whether the Irish duo Gibson-Park and Keenan will be able to participate in the Optus stadium due to respective glutes and calves, but the Huw Jones Scottish center has recovered from an Achilles problem and is available.
“We will see how they stop in the middle of the week,” said Farrell about Gibson-Park and Keenan.
“Huw Jones is good, he trains. He completely trained with us last week, so he is operational.”
Farrell confirmed that the team against Western Force will mainly consist of players from Leinster, Bath and Leicester, who joined the Lions after the United Rugby Championship on Saturday and the Gallagher Premiership Finals last Saturday.
There was no new injury from the 28-24-year-old defeat on Friday against Argentina at the Aviva stadium, with Farrell wishing not to dwell on the disappointment of the tour.
“We are here to build for what will be a series of fantastic tests. We want to play the right rugby along the way,” he said.
“We will know more about others while we continue. Of course, we will analyze what happened against Argentina and why, but all of this is part of the trip – to understand where we have to go.
“It’s great to be here, that’s what it is. We are here for a while. I hope we can start this part of the tour on Saturday.”
Sky Sports will exclusively show the tour of the British and Irish lions in 2025 in Australia, with the three tests against the Wallabies and six heating games to show exclusively live
