Buzzy ai startup Multraverse creates two of the smallest high -performance models of all time

One of the most important AI startups in Europe has published two AI models that are so tiny that they have named them according to the brain of a chicken and a brain of a fly.

MultiVervese Computing claims that it is the smallest models in the world that are always very efficient and can manage the cat, speech and even reasoning in one case.

These new tiny models are intended to be integrated into internet objects of objects, as well as smartphones, tablets and PCs.

“We can so compress the model that they can adapt to the devices,” Techcrunch told Orús. “You can run them in premises, directly on your iPhone or on your Apple Watch.”

As we have mentioned earlier, multiverse computing is a buzzing European startup whose head office is in Donostia, Spain, with around 100 employees in offices around the world. He was co -founded by a better European teacher of quantum and physics, Román Orús; Quantum IT expert Samuel Mugel; And Enrique Lizaso Olmos, the former assistant CEO of Unnim Banc.

He has just lifted 189 million euros (around $ 215 million) In June on the strength of a model compression technology, he called “compactifai”. (Since its creation in 2019, it has collected around $ 250 million, said Orús.)

Compactifai is a compression algorithm inspired by the quantum which reduces the size of existing AI models without sacrificing the performance of these models, said Orús.

“We have compression technology that is not typical compression technology that people from IT or automatic learning will do, because we prove quantum physics,” he said. “It is a more subtle and more refined compression algorithm.”

The company has already published a long list of compressed versions of open source models, in particular small popular models like Call 4 Scout Or Mistral Small 3.1. And he has just launched compressed versions of The two new Openai open models. He also compressed very large models – he offers a Slim Deepseek R1, for example.

But as it is in the case of writing models, it has focused additional attention to the reinforcement of the smallest but the most powerful models.

Its two new models are so small that they can provide discussion capacities AI roughly any IoT device and work without internet connection, the company says. He humorously calls for this family the zoo of the model because he calls the products according to the size of the animal brain.

A model he calls Superfly is a compressed version of the Open Source model of Hugging Face Smollm2 135. The original has 135 m parameters and has been developed for disk uses. The superfly is 94 m of parameters, which Orú compares to the size of the brain of a fly. “It’s like having a fly, but a little smarter,” he said.

Superfly is designed to be trained on very limited data, such as the operations of a device. MultiVerse plans to be integrated into household appliances, allowing users to make them work with voice commands like “start Quick Wash” for a washing machine. Or users may ask troubleshooting questions. With a little treatment power (like an Arduino), the model can manage a voice interface, as the company has shown in a live demo of Techcrunch.

The other model is named Chickbrain and is larger at 3.2 billion parameters, but is also much more capable and has reasoning capacities. This is a compressed version of the Meta Llama 3.1 8B model, known as MultiViverse. However, it is small enough to perform on a MacBook, no internet connection required.

More importantly, Orús said that Chickbrain actually surpasses the original slightly in several standard benchmarks, notably the mmlu-professional of the linguistic language, the skills of skills in mathematics Math 500 and GSM8K, and the general GPQA diamond of general knowledge.

Here are the results of multiverse chickbrain internal tests on references. The company did not offer reference results for superfly, but multiverse does not target superfly in use cases which require reasoning.

It is important to note that multiverse does not claim that its zoo model will beat the largest peak models on such benchmarks. Zoo’s performance may not even land on rankings. The fact is that its technology can reduce the size of the model without having hit performance, the company says.

Orús claims that the company is already in talks with all the main manufacturers of devices and devices. “We are talking with Apple. We are talking with Samsung, also with Sony and with HP, of course. HP came as an investor in the last round,” he said. The Tour was led by the famous European company of VC Bullhound Capital, with the participation of many others, notably HP Tech Ventures and Toshiba.

The startup also offers compression technology for other automatic learning forms, such as image recognition, and in six years has obtained customers like BASF, Ally, Moody’s, Bosch and others.

In addition to selling its models directly to the main manufacturers of devices, Multifree offers its tablet models Via an API hosted on AWS that any developer can use, often at drop -down costs lower than competitors.
