Daniel Dubois can return and become world champion again, but he will have to learn from his enemies Oleksandr Usyk.
Dubois was headlining in a noisy stadium in Wembley for the second consecutive time when he beat Usyk, this time for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
But the Ukrainian dissected Dubois’ attacks and, after dropping him in the fifth round, coldly sent the Briton with a big left hook of Southpaw, a shot he had appointed “Ivan”.
Dubois had inherited the title of the IBF that Usyk had left before the revenge match of the Ukrainian with Tyson Fury last year. But the 27 -year -old had eliminated Anthony Joshua to prove himself at the highest level and his promoter Frank Warren thinks he can become world champion again.
He is after all young people, especially for a heavyweight, with many years in sport.
“He must learn. He is only 27 years old. I look at Frank Bruno for example, three times he fought for a world title and he obtained it on the fourth attempt,” said Warren.
“Daniel has won a world title, so I hope it will come back, but the main thing is that it was Usyk’s night and it is a special and special boxer.”
The promoter added: “This is what Daniel needs to learn from this fight, to try to learn and develop the mental attitude of the USYK.
“Daniel did not stick to the task, he was overlooked, he dropped his hands and paid the price.”
Dubois will take at least six months before returning, to make sure that he recovers completely.
“For Daniel now, he’s going to take a little break, think about things and he has to resuscitate,” said Warren.
“There are many fighters over the years that have been beaten and come back even stronger. This is what he must do.
“He can hit, he can hurt you and he only develops other aspects of his game.
“He must come back and make a statement.”
