Lee Carsley says that his next challenge is to win the Euros U21 again with England in 2027, after his young Lions kept their title with a 3-2 captivating victory against Germany.
Only 10 days after the Carsley team had lost 2-1 in the same match during the tournament group phases, a winner of the 92nd minute of Jonathan Rowe won a spectacular victory in Bratislava.
He followed the victory over Spain in the 2023 edition and repeats the teams of the Dave Sexton feat carried out in 1982 and 1984.

“I did not think that we had played very well tonight. I thought we were probably sitting a little too deep and did not have as much control as I had wanted, but I will probably not remember a few days.”
Pressed if he would have a role in the configuration of Tuchel’s background room in the head of the World Cup next year, he added: “I’m not sure. I will try to enjoy tonight. It’s important.
“I love my work, I am very proud of the work I do, I like to work with the players.
“I also had a chance with the senior team and I love it, so the best thing I can do is help the path and try to help the senior team.”

“We have done it now – the work is finally over and we can all celebrate!
“I entered the match with the mentality to do everything I could to help the team. I was not starting, but I knew, at some point, we all on the bench should come, make a difference and help the team push it.
“I am so happy that we managed to do it in front of important people tonight.”

The former manager of England U20, Ian Foster, thinks that Lee Carsley could be in the spirit of the Premier League clubs in search of a new manager next season after his team under 21 defeated Germany in the Euro final.

“Lee can no longer do. It will now be interesting to see what and if the offers arise, and what he wants to do on this subject.
“I am sure that the directors of football from top to bottom of the country will examine Lee’s achievements in recent years and wonder if he is the next man to come.
“I think it would be great for English football if Lee took a job in the Premier League and showed everyone what he was able to do.
“But, for the moment, he will be extremely proud of his achievements and rightly so.”
