Ben Stokes savor the impressive “Edgbaston” atmosphere while England is trying to take a 2-0 lead against an Indian team but to decide whether the bowling kasprit Bumrah will play.
England has won a superb pursuit of 371 – Their second higher in tests – to win the opening of the series in Headingley and now return to the ground where they obtained their highest, after eliminating 378 against India in the summer of the first “ bazball ‘2022.
The hosts have lost three of their last five tests in Birmingham – two against Australia, once against New Zealand – but before this has been undefeated at the Midlands stadium for more than a decade, when it was also the place of this famous victory of two Ashes 20 years ago.
India, on the other hand, has a dismal test record in Edgbaston, losing seven and drawing one of their eight games.
“The atmosphere is great, especially when the Hollies stand takes place around 4:30 p.m. for obvious reasons!” Captain of England Stokes said of Edgbaston before a test on which you can watch live Sky Sports Cricket From Wednesday (10 a.m., first ball at 11 a.m.).
“We know that when it is India against England, it is a slight 50-50 with the support, which adds to the show.
“We all like to play Edgbaston and we have a pretty good album here. The food is great here too that helps!
“We have even more confidence now (after Headingley’s pursuit). This is a good start, but one of the important things to start again. We take nothing for granted.”
Bumrah, who picked up five first -hand counters in Leeds, said before the series that he would only play three of the five tests when he manages his return following a back injury – a plan that has not changed despite the fact that India slips 1-0.
When he was asked if his star bowler will play Edgbaston, with the third test at Lord’s Perigning to start only four days after the conclusion of the second, the captain of India Shubman Gill said: “Bumrah is definitely available, but we will just see how to manage the workload in the next test matches.
“We are trying to find the right combination where we can take 20 counters and score races on these surfaces.
“You certainly miss your best bowler if he does not play, but we sorted it before the series.
An option for India is Two Play Two Spinners, with Washington Sundar or Kuldeep Yadav entering the XI to support Ravira Jadeja after a first test in which tourists’ sailors, Bumrah bar, have largely peeled.
The wrist of the Kuldeep left arm on average 22.28 against England in test cricket and won 19 counters in four games during the victory of the 4-1 series against the Stokes team in India in early 2024.
However, its inclusion could further weaken the depth of the team’s striker outside after having been collapsed from 7-41 and 6-31 in Headingley to lose a match they dominated for the long parts, with a raft of lowered sockets which are also expensive.
Gill, who admitted that his team should have beat England of the game during the first test, added: “Ideally, you want your thread depth to be seven or eight, but if you go down nine, it is difficult to obtain 20 counters on these types of counters.
“It is a question of finding the right combination. If we can go with four or five first-rate fees with perhaps a sixth bowling option, then beat at seven or eight, which will be a good combination.
“These are difficult calls, but I think that if you enter with an additional spinner, you must think how you manage it on the first day.”
