Finn Russell revealed that he had buried the ax with Johnny Sexton with the help of Andy Farrell while the ancient enemies unite their forces during the tour of the British and Irish Lions in Australia.
Sexton has already criticized Russell, calling him “flashy” and a “darling of the media”, while adding that he would choose Owen Farrell on him against the Wallabies because the former captain of England is a “test match”.
And in his autobiography, the great Ireland admitted that he “kills me to date” that he was neglected in favor of Russell for the tour of Lions 2021 in South Africa.
Now, the former half-flies rivals are working together to beat Australia, Sexton acting as the coach of the lions and Russell kicks in pole position to assume the game tasks in the test series.
When they connected for the first time after the players involved in the Premières finles and United Rugby Championship arrived at the camp earlier this week, any acrimony quickly faded.
“It was just a little craic. It was never one thing. When we got it, we laughed immediately and Andy put it in bed for it to be good,” said Scottish international Russell.
“Not that it was never going to be a problem, I don’t believe. We are all here with the same goal, which is to win the series.
“I have only been here for a few days, but it was good to work with Johnny. I am happy to bounce questions and discuss him what he sees.
“With the figures we had, he had to jump sometimes, so it was quite funny to be on the same side of training as him.
“It’s good to have a guy with his experience here.”
Australia will be Russell’s third expedition with the Lions, the three are very different experiences.
In 2017, in New Zealand, he was part of the controversial “ Geography Six ”, a group of Scotland players and Wales who were called in the Warren Gatland team not on merit, but because of their proximity during their summer tours.
Four years later, he went to South Africa where all the matches were played in camera because of the pandemic, denying the lions their famous support for “Red Sea”. The Bath Ringmaster started the third test against Springboks.
“New Zealand was still incredible because it was the first time that I have been called to Lions,” said Russell.
“We were not there for the whole tour, but having gone to New Zealand and played was really cool for me.
“And then in 2021, it was special in progress all the time, even if it was covid. We could not have family and friends or fans in the game, but it was always incredible in a different way.
“In terms of boys, we have probably learned a little better because it was just us at the hotel and so on. I look forward to what it will look like.”
Sky Sports will exclusively show the tour of the British and Irish lions in 2025 in Australia, with the three tests against the Wallabies and six warm -up matches to show exclusively live.
