Giro d’Italia: Simon Yates British wins the title for the first time after a penultimate floor | Cycling news

Simon Yates British has set up a penultimate scene from Italia Giro to tear off the Isaac Del Toro pink jersey and effectively secure his second big tower title.

Yates – who won the Vuelta A Espana seven years ago – finished third in the scene on Saturday, behind Chris Harper and Alessandro Verre, but erased Del Toro’s advance with a clinical solo attack.

The advantage of Del Toro was 81 seconds ahead of the 205 km of glasses in Sestrierre, where the runners gained 4,500 meters at altitude, but Yates took up the climb.

The British’s advance on Del Toro is now almost four minutes and, except incidents, he will be crowned champion at the end of the Sunday procession in Rome, becoming the third Briton to win the Giro, after Chris Froome and Tao Geoghegan Hart.

Yates left “speechless” after “closing the chapter”

Yates’ hopes to win the 2018 GIRO were broken during the same mountain pass that he won the victory this year – Finestre Delle college – after a breakaway from Froome.

The 32 -year -old man has now put these demons in bed, denying the Mexican driver Del Toro, 21, the title of his young daughter Giro.

Yates said: “When the route of the routes was released, I always had in mind to try to do something here and close the chapter. I am still a little speechless that I could do it.

“The whole team was fantastic the whole race, and without Wout (Van Aert) in the valley and the rest of the team all day, this would not have been possible.

“Maybe I looked relaxed this morning but I had doubts that I could do it. The guys encouraged me, believed in me, then thanks to them.

“It’s amazing, I’m trying to find the words now, but the words fail me.”
