This summer, the young filmmakers of Salt Lake City, Utah, take one step ahead through a program that puts the cameras directly in their hands.
“Having free programming allows young people who find this space to go”, Oh, my God, I did not know that something like it existed, and that’s my place, and that’s where I will stay as long as I can, “said Adam Sherlock, program coordinator at Spy hop non -profit media center.
Sherlock said that Spy Hop’s mission has always been focused on young people. Since 1999, Spy Hop has been offering a study program all year round to help young people explore narration Through the film, music and digital media. Students have access to advanced technology, software and expert mentors to help them develop and execute their ideas. From the recording of hip-hop rhythms to the production of environmental documentaries to the making of horror films, students are encouraged to create without limits.
“At 18, 19, they make this hard documentary on trans rights and the change of the world, right?” said Sherlock. “This energy and this excitement will continue in the rest of their lives.”
Last year, Spy Hop served more than 18,000 young people aged 8 to 19, reaching students in more than 120 UTAH schools. The group offers free lessons and workshops, as well as programs based on tuition fees.
