India was everything for 364, opening the door to England to organize a dramatic test cricket victory in Headingley on the last day.
Another collapse of the lower order of India gave England a chance to fight for an exciting cricket victory during the first test in Headingley, with the 9-0 hosts in their second round at the end of the game on the fourth day, reaching 371 to win.
Josh Tongue, just as he did in the first rounds, appeared when he saw the Indian tail, with three counters in four balls helping to guarantee that tourists lost their last six counters for 31 points on Monday.
The collapse, which saw India at 364 years old, gave the dangerous Jasprit Bumrah the possibility of attacking England before the closure of the game. But neither the opener, Zak Crawley nor Ben Duckett, seemed troubled while they pushed the Indian attack to strains.
Reaching 371 would be the second highest high level of testing in England against India, and the second highest in Headingley, more than the heroism of inspiration of Ben Stokes on the same ground against Australia in 2019.
“To get them out and not lose a counter in the last half hour, Ducky (Ben Duckett) and Zak (Crawley) beat very well,” Tongue in Sky Sports told.
“The first session that we beat very well, I thought we had no luck. The message was to hit the ground as loud as possible. He calmed down during the second session. We just had to stay patient.”
Using the fourth day of 90-2 in the second round, with an advance of 96 points, the captain of India Shubman Gill, who made his highest test score in the first round, cut his strains to fall for eight in Brydon Carse.
England felt an opportunity, having brought back into the test on Sunday. But the average partnership of 195 points by Rishabh Pant with KL Rahul swept the momentum in favor of India.
The normally box office pants began its sleeves in a fairly conservative way, happy to look at Rahul moving gently in his century, his ninth in tests, of which eight came abroad.
After breaking two six in three balls after lunch, Pant struck the accelerator and released his typically flamboyant shots on all over the ground, with its hundred senses, for the first time, that there was five centuries in India marked in a test match.
Pant finally tried too much stroke, surprised chasing six others on the border by Crawley for 118 before Rahul falls shortly after tea for 137, cutting again on the strains of the bowling in Carse.
Then came the collapse inspired by the language, while the fast launcher took three counters and the catch which caused the end of India’s sleeves as a shot side, after losing their last six counters for 24 points, collapsed.
Bumrah, the number one number one test launcher, which took five counters in the first round, immediately caught the ball but had very little joy while Crawley was unbeaten on the 12th, while Duckett will return for a random Tuesday on nine.
The chances are stacked against England on the last day, but there is at least hope. In 59 tests during the defense of the totals of more than 350, India has only lost once. However, this was against England in 2022.
“Someone has to win tomorrow; it will be an interesting day,” Rahul told Sky Sports.
“The counter is not as simple as the first rounds. They will not find as easy to hit the balloon up. Even if they get a large partnership, if we get some counters, we will be right in the game.”
